Nice Pubs To Visit. 2008-2012.

"A robust 19th-century dining pub tucked away down a lane in a village eight miles from Oxford... wood smoke tinges the air; ...the excellent wine list... Wherever you decide to eat... the food is a treat: splash out on potted shrimps with toast, then salmon and prawn fish cakes with sweet chilli sauce."

 Good Pub Guide Recommended 2009-2012

...The chef/landlord and his charming young staff ensure a genial atmosphere, helped by the tables' fat church candles and flower bunches... Hearty well prepared food using good local ingredients... an interesting range of wines in two glass sizes..."

Customer's Review: “great food, lovely staff”
Reviewed 2 October 2011

"This is a lovely gastro pub - food is locally sourced where possible and is delicious. The specials change regularly and the main menu is great - try the venison burger. Love the "flan of the day" idea too. The staff are young and enthusiastic - nice unobtrusive service. Recommend! Visited in October 2011." http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g2062194-d2078065-r118839946-The_Oxford_Arms-Kirtlington_Oxfordshire_England.html#REVIEWS

"The Oxford Arms is the epitome of the country gastro pub. Warm welcome, warm atmosphere, golden pine tables and log fires. Short menu that changes with the seasons. Several starters that can be ordered as a main. An English menu with European influences."

Guest Review: "This is a lovely, cosy & unpretentious pub with a very inviting fire & excellent hearty, robust food. They use lots of fresh local produce & have a small but serious wine list. A particularly tasty Cornish mackerel stands out in my memory: it was chatting me up at the bar as I remember… as I say, a serious wine list!" by Ronni Ancona. January, 2010.

CUSTOMER'S REVIEW:

"... We had lunch at the Oxford Arms – in all the time we were at this office, ricardo had never experienced the magical triple cooked chips!  It was a regularly haunt of the rest of the family when we were in need of a treat for lunch and it’s a shame we won’t be able to go very often anymore.  I had the venison burger and chips and Rich enjoyed the ham, egg and chips – neither dish disappointed!  It was really lovely to be able to have a lunch just the two of us." "There are certain types of "locals" that you only get to have in your village if you are very lucky indeed. "The Oxford Arms" is exactly that sort of village pub, with an enthusiastic following of regulars and many from further afield seeking it out in Kirtlington. Billed as a "19th century English Pub and Eating House" the traditional stone inn boasts a very stylish and comfortable interior and very friendly staff. The food is as comforting as the surroundings, with dishes such as potted shrimps with toast, venison burgers and 28 day aged sirloin steak with hand cut chips and green peppercorn sauce on offer. The pub also serves some respected ales and has a very good wine list making it a lovely place to while away a few indulgent hours." "My last visit was on Rememberance Sunday, which proved a very busy day for The Oxford Arms; service was consequently a trifle slow (but not unforgivably so). The food however was of the usual high standard at this excellent country pub. Several well-kept ales were available. Worth a journey." by DrBunsen, April, 2009.

"Great pub - nice atmosphere, guest beers, really good food including some fish specials." by doccox, October, 2004.

"An excellent pub in a quiet rural village outside Oxford. Dogs welcome in the bar area and garden if kept under control. Fantastic food and real ale."

"... I signed off my laudatory Oxford Times article by saying: "I am just going to have to go back - soon." But stupidly I didn't, and it was not until two weeks ago that I stepped once more into this wonderfully 'pubby' place... Our meal certainly showed this good name to be justified. Both the quality of the ingredients and the way these had been handled in the preparation of dishes made it obvious that here was a place where people cared about good food, and their customers' enjoyment of it..."  by Chris Gray. "...there was nothing to distinguish The Oxford Arms from any other gastro pub – until the food arrived. To cut a long story short it was the most memorable meal I've had for a long time – a feeling reflected around the table. 'The best roast in memory', 'the best fishcakes' and 'the best Sunday lunch' were just a few of the compliments bandied about..." by Katherine MacAlister.  "The Oxfordshire Limited Edition73".  February, 2006.  http://www.oxfordtimes.co.uk/food/691292. "My kind of "eating house"... It truly is first-class... I began with "pie of the day' - a delicious blend of caramelised onions, leeks and goat's cheese in a rich, greasy pastry. Also on the menu is hand-raised pork pie with chutney (I got some of that too). I'm sure it's a corker... You know, I'm just going to have to go back - soon." by Christopher Gray. "The Oxford Times". October, 2004. Oxford Times_October2004.docx

"Much more than a pub... My lamb was delicious - cooked "medium-rare", just as I requested, and perfectly complemented by the roasted peppers and new potatoes... I never really meant to have pudding, but when the landlord casually mentioned that the dessert of the day was summer pudding, I couldn't resist..." by Sarah Meyrick.
